My grandparents used to have a house in Laguna Hills that was a 2 minute drive from the beach. Growing up I used to sometimes take my rod out and cast from the shore but had no idea what the hell I was doing for the most part. Most I ever caught was seaweed if I was lucky, and if I was unlucky would get my whole rig snagged and have to cut it off.
Anyways, my wife and I decided to take an impromptu trip to the beach in Malibu the other day and I decided last second to bring my rod. I didn’t have any bait so just decided to spend some time digging up little sand crabs. I hooked them up on a drop shot rig and cast them out and caught my first ever shore fish. Google says it’s a yellowfin croaker and a black perch.
