Does anyone know what is causing the bubbles from my sponge filter to not pop? Only got 2 snails in the tank for now so it’s not fish waste.

  1. Usually it’s just a sign of biofilm/proteins in the water. Nothing to be terribly alarmed about at the moment.

Protein skimmers are used in saltwater tanks because they create excess that needs to be filtered from the waters surface. Freshwater tanks will build up as well just not as quickly.

Best bet is to make sure you have a water flow that has enough surface agitation to really encourage a good ‘churning’ of your tanks water ensuring your pump and filter are truly moving every ounce of water within the system.
