Caught this nervous lil fish off a dock on a North Dakota lake. I'm kinda new to this, so I went through a list of fish known to be in this lake, as well as my state Game and Fish website's list of common species, but I'm still not quite sure what this fish is. I don't think it's a smallmouth bass– it's too pale and yellow, and the top fin definitely doesn't match, right?

Baby smallmouth bass?
It’s a smallmouth bass. No doubt about it.
Fish can change color pretty significantly to match their surroundings, so one fish can look pretty different from another.
I’m a nd fisherman myself and there’s only one lake in my area that holds smallies like this one. They don’t get large in my area but dang are they fun.
