I don’t use water clarifier because in my opinion it is almost always a band aid for a larger issue.

  2. I don’t, and never have.

Cloudy water is either algae, bacterial bloom, or fine particulate. Fine particles can be filtered out with very fine poly floss; bacterial blooms will settle in time; algae needs to be dealt with at the root cause rather than with water clarifier.

  3. None, those are marketing gimmicks to cover up the actual issue! If you’re having issues with water clarity, you probably have a parameter problem or algae

I use Seachem Pristine, but only when I’ve done some heavy renovations & have polluted the tank.

I once tried popping up my soil but used dirt substrate instead of my usual pellet substrate and it clouded the tank for 2 weeks & dirtied the filters like mad.

After 2 weeks of it still being clouded (even with regular water changes), I used seachem and it worked great within days, turned it crystal clear.

Aside from things like that, I don’t use any. My waters always naturally crystal clear.

  5. I found this to be really toxic in a tank even if you follow the guide on the back. Like other posters have said not required if everything else is correct. A long time ago I put a pin hole in the top and just barely sprinkled some into the water just after moving items in the tank but since stopped using it
