After not having fished in over 20 years, I went back to basics. Yup, after being skunked three times at this location, I adjusted the hook size and figured out how to keep the nightcrawler on the hook (and how much of it to use, too). Also went fishing when the weather was cooler and after a few bites with no hook, I finally snagged this little croaker and one other slightly larger croaker. Kept them to use as cut bait or baitfish for later. Went upriver a little on another pier – same result.

This is the public pier at Solomons Island, Maryland with a Quantum Octane spinning combo. 1/2 of a nightcrawler on an offset hook with two split shots and a bobber. Probably about 75 degrees outside.
