Hello everyone my son wanted a fish so I tried my best to Makenthis a good experience.

I got him, what I believe is a descent enough Aquarium but I have some questions

  1. The most important, we leave in Canada so a heater is a must, i bought a 20 bucks heater that said that was ok for small 2-5 gallon aquarium, our fish is in a 3 gallon aquarium but I notice some condensation on the top of the tank, I checked the temperature and it was at 30.3 degrees Celsius (80 f) and I understand that, it is the upper limit. Am I supposed to turn the heater on and off? Is it just for winter? As we are still in summer the temperature outside is in the mid twenties (between 75 and 80).

  2. The lady at the pet shop insisted that pallets is the way to go and they were very affordable but all resources online talk about how Bettas are insectivorous. So should I feed them blood worms instead of pallets? Are dried blood worms the same as frozen nutritionally? What options of live food do you use? Can I tried In a little ant from time to time?

  3. My son really wanted that fake anemone, it is fish tank grade approved, should I take it out?

1: The tank should be fine at 80 degrees, but be sure to monitor your area’s temp. I also had an instance where in June my house was so warm I didn’t need a heater. Usually the water is about 3-5 degrees more than the air (Fahrenheit) if that helps. Just monitor it for now and remove/turn off the heater if necessary.

2: I’d probably feed both actually. It’s good for your betta to have a varied diet. Dont just feed any pellets though, make sure it has a high protein content and no fish meal. I use fluval bug bites, but there are many others that also work well. As for live foods, try brine shrimp, mosquito larvae, or daphnia. Make sure its warm though for the mosquitoes. I would not drop in an adult ant to feed your betta, as it could bite them and injure them. They *can* eat adults like brown and black ants, but i wouldn’t risk injuring my betta. I unfortunately dont know the differences in nutritional value between frozen and dried bloodworms.

3: I had one of those in the past and they seem fine (I.E smooth, no sharp edges), only didn’t use it because of the color

     Hope this helps!

Edited to add pellet recommendation and notes

If your son really wanted it, you should def keep it!They’re soft and all my diff fish like to play in it. I’d just suggest getting more live plants! Betta’s can handle high temps. 80-85 is how they like it. Temperature fluctuations are what’s not the greatest for your fish. Def keep the heater on so the temperature stays constant! Just monitor the thermometer that the temps stay stable and you’ll be good. As far as food: I feed my betta’s [flakes](https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/tetra-bettamin-flake-medley-081-oz-3160077?store_code=3825&mr:device=m&mr:adType=pla_with_promotionlocal&cm_mmc=PSH%7CGGL%7CCCY%7CCCO%7CPM%7C0%7CaxsvnXfjRWFFwpetHmZu75%7C%7C%7C0%7C0%7C%7C%7C21467366052&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD97F17wfQKIcovXF9mR4H0nvW4ae&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIxNmatImTiAMVVDIIBR0DXyN3EAQYASABEgL41fD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) and [bug bites](https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/159-oz-fluval-bites-betta-gra-2883214?store_code=3794&mr:device=m&mr:adType=pla_with_promotionlocal&cm_mmc=PSH%7CGGL%7CCCY%7CCCO%7CPM%7C0%7CaxsvnXfjRWFFwpetHmZu75%7C%7C%7C0%7C0%7C%7C%7C21467366052&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD97F17wfQKIcovXF9mR4H0nvW4ae&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4aOZyYmTiAMVAjUIBR0XAi-vEAQYASABEgKnF_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)

I don’t feed actual frozen food, but I do feed freeze dried tubifex worms and brine shrimp as a treat sometimes and also freeze dried blood worms, once in a blue. Maybe someone else can chime in concerning frozen food! For live food I used to feed daphnia & flightless larvae. I haven’t seen the larvae at Petco and the daphnia was annoying to culture after a while so I gave up on those, sadly lol. Lastly, my betta’s don’t care for pellets but I keep [these](https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/tetra-tetrabetta-select-floating-mini-pellets-12-oz-3186509?store_code=3711&mr:device=m&mr:adType=pla_with_promotionlocal&cm_mmc=PSH%7CGGL%7CCCY%7CCCO%7CPM%7C0%7CaxsvnXfjRWFFwpetHmZu75%7C%7C%7C0%7C0%7C%7C%7C21467366052&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD97F17wfQKIcovXF9mR4H0nvW4ae&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqtGlhYuTiAMVVjgIBR2OwROwEAQYASABEgI0R_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) on hand. Oh and I almost forgot [these flakes](https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/omega-one-betta-buffet-flakes-fish-food-028-oz-2627317?store_code=2816&mr:device=m&mr:adType=pla_with_promotionlocal&cm_mmc=PSH%7CGGL%7CCCY%7CCCO%7CPM%7C0%7CaxsvnXfjRWFFwpetHmZu75%7C%7C%7C0%7C0%7C%7C%7C21467366052&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD97F17wfQKIcovXF9mR4H0nvW4ae&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvOfDmouTiAMVCkT_AR3FVBhNEAQYAiABEgIaOfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)

Hope this helps a bit and these are just some of the things I feed! I’m sure others will chime in with other suggestions 🙂

first upgrade to an five gallon, it is less mantince and gives your fish more room to swim. Second, do not turn of the filter 30 c is an good temp! Its used to make sure the water is at an constantlt warm tempature. 3. Best to feed is an mix of high protien pelts, like bug bites, and blood worms. 4. I wouldnt reccommend taking advice from
petstore employees. While some can be good the fact that they let you get an three gallon isnt really an good sign. Go online for research. 5. I wouldnt reccomend keeping the plastic items because they can cause damage to your bettas fins. Try Live plants! Like java fern, theyre easy to keep alive
