Betta Fish: New to owning fish, tank question

Hi all. I'm new to all this, and currently have a 5.5 gallon tank with lid. No betta fish yet, I've got it set up with the bio starter to cycle for a month. I'm just wondering if this lid is OK, or will a betta fish jump through the gap? I don't have the piece that goes with it 🙁
Also is this filter too strong? I couldn't put an airstone in as there's a bit of plastic that sticks up inside the filter.

Plants aren't planted yet so their bacteria can also add to the tank 🙂 my plant light is coming tomorrow 😀
