I have an 182L tank that used to only have an internal filter until I learnt that with Nugget, Nibble and Winter it was actually overstocked. So I added two sponge filters and a canister filter but now I'm like… how often am I supposed to clean them? How do I know when to clean them?
I saw someone say that if the tanks got a lot of debris, it's time to clean the sponge filters but since I have multiple kinds of filters, I'm not sure how relevant that is. So I'm a little confused.

Canisters once every 2-6 months, internals/sponges once per year or so. Yes I know, my canisters don’t need cleaning that often.
Basically they don’t need cleaning until the flow is reduced.
I never clean filters, sponge filter probably running for almost 10 years now
with canisters I would do a small reverse drain once every couple years to check for shrimp that snuck in

When it looks like they are starting to get clogged
Never. Used to. Haven’t cleaned them in 5+ years.
