My friend bought this fish and left it in my house,he walked all the way from the pet shop to my house nearly 33 minutes 💀it’s not very energetic and has no response to my finger tapping the jar. It’s under 24 degrees so I wrapped this jar with towel.I know this jar is terrible I’m gonna get a tank for her tomorrow. She’s not eating any flakes I normally feed my other gold fish so I’m gonna feed her cooked egg for a while(I bought heater and betta fish food online gonna take 6 days)Help I THINK SHES DYING

    Here’s what you need:

    – Minimum 5 gallon (about 19L) tank with lid
    – substrate
    – plants (preferably live, can do silk, avoid plastic)
    – API Freshwater Master Test Kit (if you don’t already have it)
    – heater (bettas are tropical fish)
    – high protein betta food. Bettas are carnivores, so see if you can get her some bugs to eat (mine likes the occasional small moths and beetles I find in nooks and crannies of my house)
    – low-flow filter (sponge filters are best imho)
    – Tetra SafeStart or other bottled bacteria. Also try using filter media from your goldfish tank to get your new lady’s tank cycled right away.

Best of luck! She’s definitely in rough shape. The tiny, clamped fins are from poor water quality. You’ll have to change her water frequently as long as she’s in the jar.

  2. If you’re going to get a tank tomorrow, just buy food at the same time. I would not recommend cooked egg. Bettas can go quite a while without eating, so she should be okay until tomorrow. Make sure you don’t close the jar all the way because she needs oxygen to breathe. Tomorrow you’ll need a tank, some gravel or sand for the bottom of the tank, a filter & a heater at the bare minimum. Best of luck to you & your new bud, but honestly if you don’t have the time/resources to take care of it (or you just don’t want to bc you didn’t even choose to have a fish) you can always return it to the store he bought it from! Also curious has to how it ended up in a mason jar ??

Other comments are doing a good job at helping but I also recommend that you need to research “fish in cycling” as this is what you will be doing and will be your best shot at keeping your betta alive. I also recommend the products seachem prime and seachem stability 🙂
