My son wants an “oil slick” color reel but he’s only just recently learned to cast push button reels. The specs claim 4-5LB line, but anyone think I could get away with 10LB? Even if it has to be braid instead of mono.

  1. Nah that reel ain’t it just buy him a dock demon combo, these cheap Chinese companies use colorful and “expensive” looking designs to make you think it’s a legit good quality product

  2. Heh, I just got that reel a couple days ago. I’m putting together a new combo for the SO, she only uses spincast, and purple is her thing. I have a rod from the same brand coming for it. After buying one of their fly rods recently, I’m totally ok with the brand. They’re better than the price suggests.

It comes pre-spooled with braid. It didn’t list that anywhere on the listing I bought it from. It seemed pretty heavy, at least 20lb. I took it off and spooled my own 6lb mono on. 10lb should be perfectly fine.

This reel won’t win any contests, but it’s better than you’d think. The fit and finish isn’t spectacular, but function-wise, it seems fine. Better than any other spincast I’ve ever seen at the price, especially the reels that come with the Dock Demon like another commenter suggested. The reels on those Dock (Demon and Runner, I own both) combos are actual garbage, famously so. This is ***way*** better than those. Some people just don’t like companies from a specific country. Well guess where those Dock combos are made…

  3. No need to get a bad reel when you could get a good one. Spincast is not where it’s at.
