I have just recently started catfishing and I really enjoy it! lately I’ve just been catching channel cats on a rig a buddy showed me (consists of a small float on top, hook in the middle and a 1oz bank sinker on the bottom) But I have wanted to try branching out to some blue cats or even flatheads just not sure what rigs or baits work best. The river is fish is normally rocky bottom about 8-15ft deep not too fast but it’s not slow either, any gear recommendations for catching these beats are welcomed as well! Thank you all in advance

  1. If you want flathead you need live fish for bait, or a giant cluster of nightcrawlers. Blue cats will take anything, doughbait, cheese, hot dogs, cut bait, live bait, occasionally deep lures. My favorite for blue cats is fresh cut bait (any type of fish work, chunk into any size you feel is right for your rod/hook, quarter to fist sized. Their favorite seem to be skipjack/shad/silver carp).
Also catfish are much more active overnight
