Caught my first fish ever!

How do I improve my fishing skills?
I'm from Singapore and new to fishing. My friend brought me along for one fishing trip and I've been in love since. So far, I've bought a cheap telescopic rod and reel, learnt some basic knots, and gone on a few tries at the beach but to no avail. Still learning the terminology.
