Hello Betta enthusiasts! This is my boy Silas… He currently lives in a 14 Litre (3.6 Gallon) tank, as he has done since he came to live with me 6 months ago. The aquarium I bought him from assured me a 14L/3.6 Gallon was adequate, however having done some research and bonding with this beautiful boy, I really want to do better for him. I have a 25 Litre (6.6 Gallon – this would be comfortable for him, right?) tank currently sat in my Amazon basket, as well as a heater, filter and sediment. I would be inclined to save money (working on a tight budget) and reuse the accessories from his current tank, however I want to have a back up tank in case something goes wrong, and more importantly be able to cycle the new tank properly. My plan as it stands is to set up the new tank and cycle it for about 4 weeks, then introduce Silas to it slowly by adding water to the bag I’ll float him in in the new tank. I’m inclined to move his tank mates across (2 neon tetras, Émile and Jean-Paul) with him, as they have always got on well and there’ve been no instances of fin-nipping. Silas is the first Betta I’ve owned, and I’m evidently a very amateur fish keeper, so please could anyone give me advice on how to manage this transition safely. And also please be prepared for my stupid questions – they will be plentiful I’m sure.

Tetras are school fish and should live in groups no less than 5 or 6, there not ideal tank mates for bettas. Especially in anything smaller than a 20 gallon that’s heavily planted and even then I wouldn’t!

Seems like good plan, well done for doing your research. Love the names btw. I have 13 tetras (6 Neón tetras and 7 green neon Tetras) in a 30 gallon. Tetras are usually happier in a group of at least 6 so if you could get a +10-20gallon would be even better but it would definitely be an appreciated upgrade. Any live plants? Would love to see them 🌟 edit sorry I saw you do have plants and a picture of the betta
