  1. I would lose the bobber and the split shot. Throw the jig and grub by itself. Reel in. If you cant cast far with it make sure the jig is within your rods lure specs

  2. If you want to catch bluegill I’ve had insanely good results with rooster tails. It absolutely kills on bluegill and I’ve even caught a lot of bass and even a catfish on one. They’re cheap, easy to use, and have a ton of different colors and blades. I usually use the 1/8 and I’ve had the most luck with the fire tiger color. I usually cast them out as far as I can and reel them in just east enough for the blade to start spinning. You can get a feel for if it’s spinning by looking at it when it gets closer and remembering how you’re reeling in. If I want it to go deeper I put the rod angled down towards the water to where it’s almost touching the water and if I want it mid to height I either go straight out or hold it at a 45 degree angle in the air. You can use bigger or smaller (depending on the size of the fish in the pond) but with the smaller I’d put a couple of those split weights about 4-5in above the lure on the line cuz they really don’t cast far. If you don’t like those buy some quarter ounce bullet weights, ewg hooks, and some senkos and just Texas rig it. You really can’t go wrong with either of those.
