My wife and I are both beginners using 7 ft ugly stik rod/reel combo. Wife hooked something massive, I tried to reel it in but it was too big for the rod/reel to handle. Had to cut the line when I realized my handle was busted at the joint trying to reel it in. What reel should I upgrade to? Recommendations please!

Shimano sienna would be a good match, price wise, to the rod, and a significant quality upgrade from the original.
Where are you fishing? What are you fishing for? What is your budget?

I believe its 40 bucks on digitaka (digitaka is a japenee site)
Penn makes good, no frills/no nonsense reels at a decent price that will last as long as you do.
