Looking to add another rod or two to the arsenal probably 2 baitcasting rods (my very first) and want to get some more experienced people’s opinions. I have been doing tons of YouTube videos and research but most of it has left me confused.

I mainly Kayak fish in the Northeast, mostly lakes but want to get into rivers soon.

Here is what I have so far:

6’6” Ugly Stick Spinning – Medium Action
7’ Penn Fierce III Spinning – Medium – Extra Fast

I have 30lb braid hooked up to each of those. (Have a feeling that’s probably not the best. Was thinking about putting 8lb floro on the ugly stick to make it a light setup. And 15lb praise on the 7’ penn. ) I’ve been doing what I can with them but if someone could help organize what I should be throwing on what setup. Or any changes they would personally make.

I’m also looking to add a rod or two. But they need to be two piece rods as I don’t think they would fit in my car.

Looking to get a 7’-7’3” Medium/Heavy Fast action casting rod. 7:1 Gear ratio

7’2 Medium Power/Moderate Action casting 7:1 Gear Ratio

Basically I’m trying to dumb it down to 3-4 rods and have a good idea of what I should be throwing on what setup. Please help and thank you!

Are you bass fishing? If you want a light setup I would upgrade your current rods before jumping to baitcasting. The ugly stik is good rod but its not sensitve or light and neither is your Penn reel.

All depends on your budget but a Shimano Nasci 2500 and the new Shimano Clarus 2 piece spinning rod would be much more enjoyable to use. Can get both for under $200 total. Then throw on some 10-15lb braid and an 8lb leader.
