Betta Fish: betta hates new thermometer

I live in a warm country and didnt own a thermometer yet, but since theres been some cold days i ended up buying it. My betta keeps flaring at it since the second i put it on my aquarium, should i take it off or leave it to see if he gets used to it? never had this problem with other aquarium items.
