I'm pretty sure this is a skulpin aka california scorpionfish? I've seen rock fish and sculpin used interchangeably so many times but I wanted to see what you guys think.

Mainly curious because I've seen (brown and red) what people call rock fish, and (brown and red) what people call sculpin/scorpionfish.

  1. Not in my native waters, but I’m fairly certain that’s a California scorpionfish, sp. *Scorpaena guttata*.

People call fish all kinds of different names.

  2. I like to call these rock fish. I do like to say that they’re “saltwater bluegill” because I haven’t caught one that was bigger than hand size.
