I've been looking for a lightweight chest rig that's big enough to carry a Plano 3500 box, but not so big that it gets in the way and I finally found it (5.11 Tactical Skyweight Utility Chest Pack).

It fits a 3500 box, 2-3 small fly fishing boxes (or equivalent), phone, pliers, keys, and as a bonus it still fits a small CC (or anything else like pliers, fish grips, spare line, snack bars). I've been using it for CC when I go mountain biking and hiking too. Works great for that (obviously).

It is not waterproof or water resistant, that's the only major con I have with it. Luckily I tend to keep my chest dry, but I do have to keep that in mind when I pack it with stuff. Other gripes: It has way too many organizational pockets. At least a 1/4 inch of space is wasted from extra pocket fabric. The chest strap has no elastic so you have to leave it a little looser (should be more durable though, especially in the water). The top straps are not easily removable.

Let me know if you have any questions. I highly recommend for surf fishing, fly fishing, kayak/SUP fishing, backpacking, mountain biking, hiking…etc. The only thing I don't recommend it for is regular, everyday use around the city… That would definitely raise some eyebrows.
