Did my Reddit ‘research’ and bought the license and gear.

Penn Fierce 4 10’ running 25lb mono and 25lb fluro leader. 3oz pyramid sinker and 2” sand worm GULP on a #2 hook.

Feeling like this is a bit too heavy and wondering if I should reduce my leader and hook size?
Get some terminal tackle and maybe set up a fish finder rig?

Or pyramid at the bottom and then my hooks above it?

Regardless a beautiful day for a first time surf fisher. Any advice appreciated!

Also. Female Dungeness refused to let go of the 6” red sand worm! Threw her back obviously, to make lots of delicious young. So I think there is proof that the bait works…

You can do 15lb and set drag to 7-10lb.

Do you guys have sandfleas in Oregon? If so, catch them, surf perch love them!

  2. Pretty heavy gear if you’re just fishing for barred surf perch. Personally I like light tackle for perch. Will usually run 6-8 lb P-Line, 3/4 oz max weight and a 2” grub on a Carolina rig. Either that or some sort of flash minnow. Search out some structure and cast / retrieve working my way up and down the shore.
