Hey guys so I am pretty new to fishing. I feel like I made a mistake to the rod and wheel I got. In my head I wanted an all around rod and reel combo for big fish to little. I feel like maybe my rod is too big/thick for what I’m doing but I’m honestly not sure. Maybe my reel is OP too? Honestly just got what looked cool. I’ll mainly be lake kayak fishing and or river fishing but when I reel everything feels loose or off.

Ended up up going with this

Okuma Rod: 7’ 6”

Reel: Shimano 4000XG FC

Any tips or suggestions?

  1. Medium power rod if you are kayak fishing a 7 foot 6 rod is a bit long imo. And a 2500 size reel should be good

  2. That rod is made for a conventional reel, but your reel is a spinning reel.  Your setup won’t cast well.  You should return that as well.
