There is a lake near home in Wisconsin that my son and I occasionally fish at. About 200 acres, weedy shallows, 22’ max depth, mostly 10-15 FOW. There are LMB, pike, musky, walleye and panfish.

There are an abundance of 4-6” panfish. The DNR says 25/day with no size limit so we use them as bait under bobbers.

Id like to use something like a 3 way or Slip Sinker rig to hold the bait in the bottom couple feet of water but without any current would these rigs actually work? Is there a simpler way of keeping them at the target depth?

  1. Are you targeting bass? I’ve always used a popping cork style rig ( the metal wire with the bobber and beads all together) with some fluoro leader anywhere from 1-3feet depending on depth. If the fish really wants it, it’ll swim up and get the gill

  2. I would just use a bait hook and nothing else. 22” is way too shallow for me to even consider using a sinker. Just cast him out there, let him swim around for a minute, no bites, go cast him somewhere else
