I got a Diawa Airdx 7’ ML spinning rod to pair with my fx 3000. I was suppose to use it for 1/8oz jig heads with soft plastics. However, the casting distance was terrible I think I got less than 20ft with a 1/8oz jighead and a 3.5 inch curly tail. The lure rating of this rod is 1/8 to 1/2oz. I cast way further with my ugly stik inshore select medium rated from 1/4 to 5/8oz 7’6 using the same reel and braid. I use 15lb j braid x8 on my fx 3000. I tried multiple casts and it feels so short. I specifically got this rod for its lure rating hoping i would get decent casting distance. I will try the medium version and see if it gets more length. I did extensive research on this and I read all the reddit reviews on anything mentioning airdx or aird-x. Some of them mentioned the power rating on these rods are slightly over stated meaning heavy is like a medium heavy. So I’m guessing that is related to the casting distance. I also forgot that the lure or soft plastic has some weight on it too. So I measured my 3.5” curly tail to be 0.15oz. Anyways that’s my rant.
