This guy was the first time I've had a fish hooked deep down the gullet. I could reach the hook but in the heat of the moment I cut line and released. I hated it, but I wasn't confident I wouldn't maul him trying to rip the hook out. How do you decide and any tips on unhooking. Cheers.

Use a hook remover tools
Get a good hook removing tool. Learn to remove a hook on a gut-hooked fish via the gills. If push comes to shove, use a pair of wire cutters to cut the hook vs. leaving the entire hook in the fish.
