The short question: will I be cycled and ready to add a betta right away with what I have done outlined below?

Starting a new 10 gallon bookshelf tank for a betta and 6-10 small tetra (embers maybe…small). I’ll be using a Fluval AquaClear 30 and planting immediately.

I pulled one panel of the sponge media from my established 40g breeder (heavily planted and running a Fluval 207 canister). I cut the sponge from my 207 up and also pulled some of my ceramic bio media and placed them in pouches.

The Aquaclear is running on my 40g breeder as well to keep water flowing on the media. Tank arrives tomorrow and I’ve got everything else ready for setup.

  1. Prestidigatorial on

It should already be good for a small bioload, just increase it slowly, not 10 fish at once. Add the tetras, then give it a couple weeks to catch up, then add the betta. Better to add the tetras first since the betta is the more likely the aggressive one.
