Last weekend I caught a bass for the first time in my life because i stayed at an airbnb and my friend brought some rods.
Yesterday I went to walmart and bough an ugly stik gx2 combo (pictured below) and some soft plastics.
Today I walked up to a pond half a mile from me and asked the guy living there if i could fish it.
I was alone, I caught three small ones of the course of 3 hours.
It was getting dark, I didn't even have a flashlight or anything.
I remembered a yt vid (topwaters are good at dusk and dawn? I grabbed my friends dinky little 5 foot rod because his topwater popper was still attached to it.
I threw 4 or 5 casts, the sun was entirely gone now, I knew i had to leave… One more i guess… I throw the popper as far as i can, one pop….two pop…. SPLASH!
this thing felt….. different. it was pulling line, the drag was set tight as the 20$ off-brand zebco would let me, the five foot rod was bent in a full U.
I didnt know what was happening… my heart was going 180BPM, i could barely see. I pulled this thing up to the bank. It felt and looked like the rod would snap, every other bass i have ever caught (like 10 maybe ) i could just lift up and swing to me. I tried to lift it by the end of the rod to lay it on the bank. The line snapped… I reached down and lipped it as it rolled into the water!
it was dark dark now, i got the hook out after a good bit of finagling. It's throat was so big I felt like i could put both my fists in it.
My phone was on 4%, the flash wouldn't turn on. I did the best i could without taking too much time, but my heart was POUNDING, i was shaking lol.
This Sport is amazing guys…
Also: could anyone take a guess at Poundage/SIze? I know the pictures are bad lol but im curious. I have never seen a bass this size with my eyes? 4lbs? 5lbs?
For reference, i'm short arming that fish just to get it in the frame of a selfie. my hand was right by my head. I am 6 foot 3 270 lbs, and no lie I have to custom order hats because my head is too damn big for normal ones.
