For the core diet I have been feeding hikari betta bio gold pellets and fluval bug bites and she seems to eat those up just fine. I alternate them because I read it’s important for them to have a varied diet. I would like to add some other things to the rotation as well so I am looking for suggestions. She won’t eat any of these. I also fast her one day a week. She lives in a fully cycled, planted, heated 10 gallon. I want to do all I can to keep her healthy.

Just buy frozen food and cut it up into small chucks when you use it, so you won’t need to waste the rest.

  2. My betta didn’t like these after the first few months. He would only eat pellets.

  3. Frozen food is one of the healthiest foods you can give your betta, alongside live food. Brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, krill, tubifex worms, bloodworms, blackworms, fruit flies, daphnia (helps with digestion) & scuds (also helps with digestion) are my faves to feed my betta. Pellets are fine in addition to these (new life spectrum and omega one betta pellets have good ingredients & protein) but they should not be eating only pellets or only freeze dried. Pellets have filler ingredients & freeze dried is not as nutritious as frozen & it has air inside which is not good for them to be swallowing all the time.

  4. Is it possible the treats you got where already expired?  Fish food has a habit of sitting on shelves way longer than it should, and the high oil and fat content in Betta food causes it to go rancid somewhat quickly.

I like to keep extra food in the freezer and have only a little out at a time.

I agree with everyone else, frozen food is awesome- but thawing it and portioning it out will take a little extra time.  For those months where you have a lot going on- illness, exams, general drama, keep pellet food on hand.  Don’t do a full switch!

  5. I just fed them pellets and those little variety pack frozen foods from petco/petsmart. The frozen last forever because they eat so little. One square will last a month or two depending how often you incorporate it with their pellets. And there’s like 9 or 12 squares. Lol.

Fluval bug bites are a good pellet option. they’re made of larva + other ingredients depending on the mix you buy, i feed mine the bug bites tropical granules. They don’t have much filler either
