Long time trout angler but always fished streams, creeks, rivers ect. Just starting to fish some lakes in western NY. The two lakes I’ve been on in particular have little bottom structure but plenty of weed beds along the shores. Been pulling in panfish on spinners and smaller rapalas. How do I get the big lake trout, salmon, walleye, ect? Thanks for the help in advance!
I do have kayak access btw.

  1. First, do you know that those species are in the lake you’re fishing? If so, for lake trout, find the deepest holes in the lake. Like 60-100 feet. Drop down a heavy spoon or jig tipped with cut bait or even a minnow. Use fast heavy jerking action to jig it. For walleyes, look for reefs and point, changes in depth. Early and late is best. I like to use a 3/8 oz jig head with a minnow, fishes vertically about 1-2’ off the bottom. Good luck!
