Hey all, not new to fishing but very new to trout fishing and on top of that new to kayak fishing. I live in northern Nevada and I have been fishing out at my local stocked pond. The kayak is a real game changer and I’m able to get out past the weeds and fish a lot of new areas not previously accessible.

I am running into the issue though of there are ton of trout hitting the surface and even completely leaving the water. I am trying everything from spinners to flys with a bobber and the trout just aren’t biting very much. I am getting on the lake by sunrise and fishing until about mid day when it gets too hot. It’s reaching around 85°-90° by the end. Does anyone have any advice to get these jumping trout to hit?

I have only gotten them to hit a very specific brown fly on one specific day and the other trout was on a black spinner. But other than those two lures the trout have refused to hit anything else. I am at a loss because they are visibly feeding very aggressively. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! 😁😁

  1. Now, I ain’t no expert, but in my experience, when trout aren’t going after any lures I’m throwing in the water, I switch to a worm, hook, and sinker setup. There usually seems to be at least a couple of trout in any body of water that just can’t resist a worm.
