I went Kyak fishing on a lake close to me in Northern California. I caught a few small bass and one big large mouth by a tree. But that was really the only cover or structure I could find. I don't have a depth finder or a fish finder.

I could hear fish jumping but couldn't get a bite from them. I could see lots of fry and minnows. Especially near the boat launch.

I tried the following bates:
Senko Wacky Worm – caught a large mouth bass and one small bass
Zman white chatter bait
Dark Crank Bait
Whopper Plopper – foul hooked a small bass

Conditions:
Water was slightly stained
Sunny and over 100 F.
Started at 10 AM and left around 3. Not ideal but it was the time I had.
Some light gusts

  1. Shore fishing early or late in the evening, since you have a kayak I suppose you could go deep during the middle of the day, 100 degree weather is rough regardless, less oxygen and bass get lethargic, looks like you know what you’re doing

I would Senko, Texas rig with a bullet weight.

    Get the thing down deep.

Pay attention to depth of water as much as you can. Fish love flats and drop offs, all of which are “structures” just not any you can see well.

  3. Try to find a topographical map of the lake and look for interesting features like extended points, shoals, submerged humps, and drop offs
