Not even a month old St. Croix Triumph 7’ medium fast action is now broken, I can’t believe it. I know there were better options for rods, but not the way I broke the tip.

I was walking through my front door and my rod tip was still kinda outside when the outside door closed and it got wedged. I thought the rod was fine until I really looked at it. That’s what I saw in the picture above. The minuscule amount of centralized pressure that hit the tip broke it. The tip is hanging on and when I removed the line the tip kind of sits still, but I won’t dare to cast it or else the tip will just probably fall off the threads it’s held onto.

How do I even go about contacting St. Croix? I feel like an idiot for breaking it this way.

  1. See if they will warranty it, the worst they can tell is no or charge you a little for shipping. This happens more often than you think, and you will be more careful next time. If it makes you feel any better, any tip would have broken there being closed in a door.

There is an online form to fill out with an ask for 3 photos. Don’t expect a fast or free process. I just warrantied an Eyecon. The replacement would have been 60.00. I was able to upgrade to an Avid for the cost difference plus 30.00, or half the original fee.

95.00 later I have a new Avid, and I put a new tip on the Eyecon and plan to still use it. I removed the top guide carefully first and trimmed the rod to a length that would give proper spacing between the last guide and new tip.

    Good luck!
