While tracking down my perfect backpacking rod for BC (north of the PNW), I struggled to find a do it all rod that can fish well on car camping trips and backcountry hiking trips alike. To me, this means a 6ft 4 piece LIGHT rod. I struggled to find anything fitting the bill, until discovering 13 Fishing, and their Fate Quest Travel line. The 6ft is apparently an international model, not available in the US. To me, light power rods are severely underrated, and the world needs more 4 pieces. It does everything an ultralight can do well (the majority of backcountry fishing) and can also handle the off lunker trout slated for the fire pit. It feels and cast fine – i value packability since it means i will bring it in the work truck more often while on the road. On the downside, the handle is EVA, but i wont complain about weight savings. I would also expect a slightly more rigid bag/case such as the daiwa presso's, but a 10$ poster case will solve my issues while its attached to my pack. I highly reccommend this rod, as it has performed as needed, and fits a very specific niche that i feel should be more popular out west. Trout anglers, consider this rod for the average fish, and the odd "what if". I write this since I had a heck of a time researching rods, and felt manufacturers make everything except the rod that I wanted.
