The main river I fish is incredible pressured and the fish are very picky. I watched hundreds of fish feeding top water during a sulfur hatch. I tried a dozen flies bur couldn’t find one they wanted. Then one of the older gentleman said “ sometimes they’ll eat eggs, even when there is a hatch going off like this”. I thought maybe he was messing with me, seeing is he and his two friends were throwing nothing but sulfur imitations too. But I switch to an egg and caught some nice fish. Then they gave me a few of their go-to flies and I landed a few on top. Thanks Stan! You made my week 🙌

I love when old heads give the advice they should be taking but they are out there for a certain experience and that may not be catch a fish no matter what lol.

I recently landed my first ever trout on a fly rod because the older neighbors next to me saw me with my rod and offered to help. They wound up giving me casting lessons, then bought me two dozens flies that work well for that river (and wouldn’t let me reimburse them). I caught my first big trout that weekend thanks to them and I will be forever grateful
