I already plan to hit the drift less area in Wisconsin but I'm otherwise clueless. Willing to add an hour or two for some top notch angling.
Im not asking for spots just general regions watersheds that hold some trout.
Leaving in mid august.
1. Any chance I'd hit salmon coming out of the lakes?
2. Should I be worried about water temps

On your right will be Lake Michigan.
No advice on fishing but I’d strongly recommend taking i80 to get through Pa. Pa has the highest toll rate. I can’t see where you’re stating but if you take the turn pike from the Delaware River into Ohio it’s easily over $75 each way
If you’re planning on the Driftless and dont want to add another day or more, it pretty much rules out anything else in WI and MN. Chinook salmon started running on the North Shore of Superior and the Brule, but they wont be up in numbers for another month probably. Water temps up here are fishable, lots of people pulling good brook trout and rainbows. We have had a really dry July in Duluth so most of the local streams are running really low. Steelhead will start the Fall run in 3-4 weeks. Lake run of Browns are fishing right now as well.
So, assuming you skip the Northerly regions, I would modify your existing route to the South and hit up the Black Hills instead of going through ND. The drive is a lot better anyway.
I don’t have anything for you other than to keep an occasional eye on your GPS (zoomed out) for any rivers/streams you’ll be in the vicinity of. If they look good give it a shot.
Power through to Montana, spend all your extra time in any stream west of Billings to your destination

Unfortunately Salmon in Lake Michigan will most likely still be in the smaller lakes that feed into Lake Michigan endless we get some crazy weather that starts the run early. The only way to target them would be in a boat.
