Hi guys, my beta, Alistor, passed this morning. I’m genuinely actually upset over it, I got him with my roommate and he was such a silly fishy. He loved playing in the little bubbler filter I had and he loveddd watching. I had a little bridge that he would lay on and watch from.

I have no idea what he died from, I guess I’m looking for some closure. I did a 100% tank change maybe 3/4 weeks ago, and all the levels were fine afterwards. I tested for nitrate, PH, ammonia, everything in that little freshwater testing kit. He was the only fish, no snails or anything. I had a plant that I was worried was growing moss/fungus, but I threw that out during the water change.

He died so suddenly – he was fine last night, and I got back from the mall and he was dead growing fungus. I’m not sure if that means he was dead for a while, but I feel really bad over it and like shockingly guilty. I just hope he had a good fishy life.

  1. So very sorry about your Alistor betta.  These hard losses are made infinitely more so when unexpected and unexplained.  You may never know why, but take comfort in the fact that your handsome red fish enjoyed his life.

  2. Sorry to hear that…heater failure? Also plants are always good for bettas / any fish for that matter, so is moss and algae. Why did you do a 100% water change? How long have you had this fish? Did you cycle this tank? Did you dechlorinate the water? How much did you feed?
