My experience with customizing a canopy is a grand total of one, and it has a good ending, only because my neighbour was home.

The LFS sait was easy – just cut it. Seems easy enough, right?

Well after an hour (at least), many rude words expressed while hacksawing and hot knifing using a BBQ lighter, I had a partial cutout, ran out of butane (didn't matter much because it wasn't working as well as YouTube would have you think), I gave up.

I'm lucky to have a neighbour with serious tools that he uses for his vintage Chevy, and he's always happy to help out. He was home, and he finished the cuts and cleaned up the jagged edges.

I know I didn't buy a fancy canopy for my betta's 10 gallon. I know for that price point I don't get any bells and whistles, but why don't these manufacturers make it customizable with perforations?

Why not make it with thinner plastic that you can actually cut without the benefit of knowing a guy? For goodness sake, most people have similar setups. I was ready to just McGyver the thing with some saran wrap and call it a day.

I hate the stupid plastic bits, I honestly usually use anything else if possible. Why they can’t produce something more functional and better looking is beyond me. They’re not even straight usually, so they always leave a dumb-looking gap at the back. Yet, it’s the only affordable clear lid option usually
