My water is having trouble staying clear as well add this brownish algae overgrowth. I clean the filter during water changes in the water I remove never clean water and place back in. Tested the water and all levels are where they should be.
Added co2 and the second picture is about a 2 week difference. I have the Monte Carlo sitting in there as I await for my carpet tank to be ready to add in there if needed. (Will be removing this week) What am I doing wrong? Should I remove plants? I’m a beginner in this freshwater keeping hobby

I never add co2 to a tank without using a full spectrum Red, Green, Blue, and White adjustable light. A light that can adjust each of the colors by whatever percentage is needed for algae control. Algae uses the same nutrients as the plants. This includes co2.

Edit: If the algae is mostly brown, it sounds like Diatoms.
