Unhooked him without issue but he still had a surprise in store for me. As soon as I got the hook out he bucked hard and nicked my thumb before I could get my grip back – honestly not exactly sure what got me but it wasn't a hook so it's gotta be toothy joe over here.
I had to walk to the nearby bar and ask to use their first aid kit. (Second pic has the injury censored to conform to posting guidelines)
Top of the shopping list are now a landing matt, fish gripper and a micro first aid kit 🤓
