I went fishing recently with my grandad and manage to catch a nice largemouth. I was curious what variant/species it was though since it seems to have much different coloration compared to the usual green/black stripes I’m used to seeing on bass. I’ve been trying to learn fishing in a little more depth and was surprised to hear that largemouths can vary even in the same body of water.

In MD btw, caught in a pond that does not connect to any major body of water/river. Sorry for poor picture quality!

Northern largemouth. There are two largemouth subspecies, Florida largemouth and Northern largemouth. This would be a Northern. Nice catch, definitely has my PB beat. 😇
