That’s actually quite pretty. Have you tried to scrub it using toothbrush?

Algae typically a sign of excess nutrients and lights so cut down feeding, light, and fertz.

  2. Tbh it looks cool, but you can scrub with a toothbrush or simply move the tank away from sunlight. Also, shrimp and snails will eat algae.

I haven’t tried anything as of yet. I agree it looks quite cool, but I’m getting a fair bit on the glass too. Maybe it’s the light. I don’t think it’s feeding and I’m not using fertilisers. My plants aren’t looking particularly healthy though either

  4. I like it, and gram for gram algae does a better job cleaning water than plants.

This is tough to diagnose. Probably it’s because the rock is a big flat surface under the light, and so it’s a great spot for the algae to grow generally, and the fact that it is there is a tank problem. Too much nutrients, too much light, both, the usual.

However, different types of rocks have different chemical makeups on their surfaces. Some can leach different things, and it can make certain rocks more favourable for certain algae growth than others. I’ve watched this firsthand in my tank. So, you may want to get used to the idea that it’s a rock that algae likes. Some just are.
