Just started fishing a few months ago, and I noticed not a lot of people talk about how there is a different equivalency between braided lbs to mono/fluoro lbs of line.

For an example a box of Suffix 832 20lb braided line will say it's the equivalent to 6lb of monoline.

But then I'll see anglers do something where they will buy 10lb braid and match it with an 10lb leader line, when if we're following the equivalency suggested by Suffix, we should be pairing a 10lb leader line with something closer to a 30lb braid line (or 33.33lbs to be exact).

Are people not stringing their setups correctly if they aren't considering the braid-to-mono/fluoro equivalency?

? I think you are confused, or maybe I am after reading this.

When that suffix braided line says it is equivalent to 6 lb mono, they are referring to the line diameter (how thick the line is). So they are saying the diameter of this 20lb braid is the same diameter as typical 6lb mono line.

The idea is if your reel (spool) can accommodate 200 yards of 6lb mono, it should be able to accommodate 200 yards of this 20lb braid.
