I've recently gotten remotivated to try learning how to fish again after my latest BWCA trip where a friend caught some nice Pike for us to eat. It got me wanting to try and fish again, I already love being in/near the water and love the prospect of catching fish to eat.

I got a fishing rod/reel for my last Boundary Waters trip a few years ago and never ended up using it because the trip got cancelled cuz of the pandemic. So it just kinda sat it my camping closet for the last few years.

I included some pics of the rod and reel with some identifying info on them, the Pflueger President is the 3000 size I believe.

I wanna target mostly fish that I can potentially eat, my friend says that usually for panfish a shorter, lighter action rod and reel combo is better, but since I already have this I might as well know what it's good for specifically.

I'm definitely a newcomer with a lot of questions but I'd appreciate any advice anyone has on this.

I have the same rod but the newer version. I fish for bass mainly with it, but works well for crappie or catfish. I don’t have that much puke around here but would also work.
A spinning combo is more versatile than a baitcaster so you’re good to go for most fresh water fish. The lures and tackle would depend of what you actually target on that day.
