Hi folks, I haven’t wanted to add a heater to this tank because I travel a lot and I’m paranoid about all the stories of people’s filters failing/melting. I live in California and the indoor temp is usually between 70-75 in the summer and 65-75 in the winter.

Any stocking suggestions for fish that don’t mind cooler temps?

I’m thinking rainbow shiners for one, but would like to do a few other species.

  3. Alaska reporting in with my own cold water tanks that hover between 65-75F all year. I have personally stocked my tanks with:

    – Hillstream loaches (They can enjoy down to 60F with no issues)

    – Medaka Rice fish (can enjoy down to 40F)

    – Neocaradina shrimp (can enjoy down to 55F)

    – Rainbow Shiners (Do not enjoy long periods above 74F and do have short life spans (1ish years))

    – Pygmy corydoras (can enjoy down to 68F)

    – White Clouds were already mentioned below.

Gold barbs can do well in cold water. I have heard cherry barbs can as well but not sure about that.

Some recommendations that haven’t been mentioned: clown killifish and endler’s livebearers
