Started catching gar recently, was expected a good fight but they just except their fate. Anyone else experience this.

Some fish in general just do this. But a gar fight can be comparable to a pike fight if you hook a feisty one. Seems like you just got a particularly lazy one lmaoo. Its also worth noting they put up more of a fight in warmer water. If the water is fairly cold they will be a bit more lethargic. They also might be if its EXTREMELY hot.
