and if not what are my options? tie a nother length of line on the end or start over? thi is my first spinning reel and also my first time puting line in a reel so i would be oky just pulling it off and strting over and calling the loss a learning experience

  1. Yeh you’ll get away with it without any issues. Ideally you’d have a little more, it would cast slightly further, but the difference is pretty marginal.

    no need for it to be a “loss’. when you unspool that line, wind it back on the spool it came from. i use a small piece of scotch or painter’s tape to secure the line to the plastic.
    next, tie a monofilament line to your reel (i use an arbor knot) and put in several wraps. this is called “backing” or “filler”. it helps prevent line slipping under tension and keeps you from spending $60 on braid every time you need to spool up. connect this line to your braided line, i use an alberto knot, and wind the line back on your reel.
