I’m not a great writer but I will try to keep this as organized as possible

Back in 2015 or so my dad and I were trying to find a way to catch tropical fish that get caught within the Gulf Stream and carried up to our home state of New Jersey. We were specifically targeting spotfin butterfly fish.

We decided to take a square 4 door crab trap and wrap each face in mesh netting to make it sufficient for trapping small fish. We then placed an underwater camera from Amazon in the corner of the trap which runs to a video screen. This allows us to see everything going on the trap.

This has proven successful in years past and I will be giving it another go this August with some improvements. I just thought others may find this set up useful for their own micro fishing. Thanks for reading y’all.

Pictures are from a test run early this season. Believe the fish is a croaker. Used squid strips and salted clam for bait.
