i use a sling because im scared to gill fuck them. the rapala weight and release sling is my fav as it folds smaller as my tackle box. u put the pike into the sling fold the sling over the pike for 5 to 10 seconds while still under the water then u can grab it behind the head and dehook it. they go to sleep or something it works with every fish and makes dehooking a breeze. just make sure the fish is always at least half submerged and it will stay calm. most fish panic because either they are choking or the air is to hot or the mesh of your net is irritating them
