Not a beginner but figured I would share this. A buddy and I were out walleye fishing on the Missouri River bouncing jigs with a minnow off the bottom. We had spotted a school of fish on the side scan and moved in to see if we could catch a couple of them. To our surprise we started pulling up some rather large catfish. What surprised us was the fact that they were rather aggressively hitting the jig on the drop. Both of us have fished both species for years and never caught big cats like this. I guess my point is that you never know what is going to work that day. I would have never said hey, let's go jig for some catfish. Keep an open mind and use what works.
