Fix for Maxcatch ultraglass sections not fitting together?

  1. Just bought this thing, and was super excited to use it, but the middle section and butt section won’t fit together.  This is as close as I can get them.  I tried cranking it down, but it got stuck, and I had to ice them to pull them apart.  Is there any way to fix this?

Glass rods often have a little gap between sections. I wouldn’t worry about it.

    And also, it’s not a high-end rod. It’ll fish. I wouldn’t worry about it.

  3. It’s called a spigot ferrule, and it’s supposed to work like that.

    From the ultra glass page:

“A “spigot ferrule” or “internal ferrule” involves a separate piece that is bonded to the inside of the lower section, producing a protruding tube that the top section slides on. When an internal ferrule is properly seated, there is a 1/8- to 1/2-inch gap between the two sections. This prevents the sections from rubbing against each other and allows for future wear.

The internal ferrule, on the other hand, while more labor-intensive to build, allowed for a continuous diameter from below the ferrule to above because the upper section didn’t have to fit over the entire diameter of the section below it. With more consistent diameters and tapers, internal-ferrule rods provided smoother action.”

  4. You might have a little luck by shading it in with a #2 pencil for lube, but it doesn’t look like much of a big deal to me.

That rod has a spigot style ferrule and should have a gap just about like that. It’s good to go.
