I’ve caught 5 bass today, all but one using wacky worm rigging. Some of the rigs I have it going thru the center of the worm and some I have the worm fastened to the hook directly underneath the curve. Unfortunately, I had a bass take one through the eye and another swallowed the hook entirely and died shortly after its removal. Both of these incidents occurred on the respective riggings mentioned prior, does anyone else seem to have more injuries inflicted while wacky worming over say, texas rigging?? Attached is the fish who got it thru his eye, he bit so hard he pushed the worm up to the top of the hook, don’t know a way in which that could be avoided.

Get wacky rig hooks. They are much smaller and will help prevent this.

Here’s the thing, it happens with all types of hooks/setups. I went fishing tonight and caught 5 on a wacky worm setup. I use either a size 1 or size 2 Eagle Claw Trokar Weedless Neko hook with mine.

  3. If you’re concerned with harming the fish try making your hooks barbless by smashing them down with pliers.
FWIW I haven’t killed a fish since I started doing that even when they swallow it. Now I only use barbs when fishing for species I want to eat.

Also, hookup/catch rate hasn’t really changed.

They make great fish fry! 😊 ethical eating in the case you gut one, or it doesn’t make it. It’s time to break out the fillet knife! You owe it to nature to at least feed yourself.
